At Thursday, August 14th beginning at 9pm, this year’s season of Musical Evenings in St Donat will reach the final concerto. Traditional finale with unavoidable Zadar Chamber will be performed in acoustical space of St Simon’s Church. Under the artistic direction of violinist and soloist of this concerto, Marco Graziani, Zadar Chamber Orchestra will perform with Chamber Choir Ivan Filipović led by Goran Jerković. Ivan Filipović is Croatian choir of large caliber with medals from prestigious international choir competitions and successful tours. Active for already sixteen years, today is considered one of the most successful amateurs a cappella choirs in Croatia with interest for wide repertoire from 16th to 21st century. With excellent vocal and technical qualifications of talented singers and rich performance experience, they will be performing Sunrise mass written by contemporary Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo with Julliard School of Music diploma in the second part of the concert. With its monumental music, Sunrise mass is referring to the origin of the universe, from the echo of The Spheres to the final themes in movement named Identity & The Ground. Ground for contemporary piece will be prepared with two pieces by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. First piece,Adagio and fugue in c-minor, K. 426 recalls baroque spirit and ingenious Bach’s organ creativity, but Mozart preferred orchestral medium which enabled full use of contrapuntal technique. Second piece, Concerto for violin and orchestra in A-major, no. 5, K. 219 is in typical Mozartiane classical style. It represents the last and the best concerto for violin written by Mozart. Unavoidable on repertoire of violin virtuosi, it conquers hearts still with fluttering melodies of the first two movements and resolute third movement with jocular elements of Turkish music. In performance of Marco Graziani, young violinist from Rijeka and already assistant on Music Academy in Zagreb, it will surely release its infectious charm onto audience of Musical Evenings.
Retrospectively looking on diverse repertoire from Renaissance to contemporary composers and excellent performers from throughout the world, programme of the 54th Musical Evenings in St Donat successfully satisfied all needs. The last concert of this year’s season will put an end to a series of excellent concerts in monumental style. Entrance to the concert is free!
