Zadar is the city of exceptional beauty and cultural heritage, located in the very heart of the Adriatic coast. The ancient downtown Zadar area is situated on the peninsula, where old Romans built a town. The medieval Zadar developed from these foundations keeping a Roman castrum formation. Zadar has preserved many valuable monuments of the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque periods: The Roman Forum from the 1st century, church of St. Donat – the most famous medieval basilica from the 9th century, church of St. Krševan from the 12th century, a bell tower of St. Mary from 1105 AD, the cathedral of St. Anastasia from the 13th century, the Narodni trg (National Square) with the City Lodge and guard from the 16th century, the City fortified walls with representative Port and land gates from the 16th century, Square three wells and Five Wells Square, many palaces, villas and other historic monuments.

Apart from the historical sites, the city is also known for its modern architectural attractions – a unique Sea Organ and The Greeting to the Sun, both next to each other on the Zadar’ waterfront.
