City Benkovac is at the junction of the fertile fields Ravni Kotari and meager karsts of Bukovica, in the nearby area of 5 national parks and 3 nature parks.
Only 15 km away from the sea, Benkovac and its surroundings are hiding the variety of natural beauty as well as the cultural and historical monuments meaningful for the formation and development of Croatia and its culture. In the picturesque villages in the area, it feels as if time stands still, authentic rural architecture has been preserved, the old traditions and the way of life are still alive, as well as the national costumes, frequently worn by elderly residents. Long before the arrival of the Croats to this area, ancient residents built their settlements and raised monuments here. Best known such invaluable finding place is Asseria, where the remains of Liburni village near Podgrada were found. The most noticeable cultural and historical monument in Benkovac is Kaštel Benković from the 15th century.
